D2 Survivors, the free Diablo II–inspired browser game, changes more than monster level when you step up to Nightmare or Hell. These are the exact values pulled directly from the game’s own difficulty configuration, not estimates.
Build verified: official macOS app 2026.1018.8 (2026-10-18). See the Act & Boss Timers guide for the run-clock schedule these values apply on top of.
What changes, in numbers
| Setting | Normal | Nightmare | Hell |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gold multiplier | 1× | 2× | 3× |
| Monster resistance penalty (against your elemental damage) | 0 | −40 | −100 |
| Monster skill bonus | 0 | +3 | +7 |
| Champion packs per spawn group | 1 | 3 | 5 |
| Extra champion modifiers | 0 | 1 | 2 |
| Cold / freeze / curse divisor (your crowd control vs. monsters) | 1 | 2 | 4 |
| Static Field minimum life floor | 0 | 0.33 | 0.50 |
| Boss doom grace period | 60s | 65s | 70s |
| Boss doom drain end time | 140s | 150s | 160s |
A negative monster resistance penalty is good for you — it means monsters resist your elemental damage less. The cold/freeze/curse divisor works the other way: your own crowd-control duration against monsters shrinks on higher difficulty (half on Nightmare, a quarter on Hell), confirmed directly in the developer’s build 20261017.8 patch note — and it does not apply to what monsters do to you.
Champion and unique life multipliers
Nightmare and Hell also scale down the multiplier applied to champion, unique and minion life on top of whatever bigger base stats that difficulty already gives them:
| Life multiplier | Nightmare | Hell |
|---|---|---|
| Champion | 0.83× | 0.67× |
| Unique | 0.75× | 0.5× |
| Minion | 0.875× | 0.75× |
These multipliers alone don’t mean Hell champions have less health than Normal ones — they apply on top of each difficulty’s own higher base stats, which this data does not fully expose. Treat this table as “how the multiplier itself shifts,” not a final HP comparison across difficulties.
Champion type weights
The relative mix of champion variants shifts too. Nightmare pulls mostly from champion/fanatic/berserker/ghostly types; Hell adds a fifth type, possessed, and spreads the weights slightly flatter:
| Champion type | Nightmare weight | Hell weight |
|---|---|---|
| Champion | 0.60 | 0.50 |
| Fanatic | 0.15 | 0.13 |
| Berserker | 0.15 | 0.13 |
| Ghostly | 0.10 | 0.09 |
| Possessed | — | 0.15 |
The boss doom timer
Every Act boss fight runs on a grace-then-drain timer: for the first 60–70 seconds (by difficulty) nothing extra happens, then the code applies an increasing cubic drain toward the boss’s life hitting its configured end-time. In practice, that means a slow boss fight is not a safe boss fight — the longer you take past the grace period, the harder the drain curve pushes, especially on Hell where the window between grace (70s) and end (160s) is the widest.
What stays the same across difficulties
The six-minute Act clock and the 6:00 Act-boss schedule don’t change by difficulty — see Act & Boss Timers. What Nightmare/Hell can change is the regular (non-scripted) monster pool, by substituting in monster variants mapped from your installed Diablo II: Resurrected area data — see Why Enemies Swarm or Thin Out for how that pool is built.
